Data Protection Officer Conference, March 2009

On Wednesday 4 March 2009 the Information Commissioner’s Office held its Data Protection Officer Conference at the Manchester Central Convention Centre.

Building on the success of the 2008 conference this event reflected on the increased profile of data protection, following recent data losses; to share ideas and experiences on how to deal with the challenges Data Protection Officers face. Expert speakers at this year’s conference were Michael Wills MP (Minister of State responsible for data protection), John Suffolk (Chief Information Officer), Neil Paterson (Data Protection Officer, Tesco) and the Information Commissioner, Richard Thomas.

Speaker presentations:

Workshops were held at the conference covering issues around privacy impact assessments, security, educating and influencing, privacy notices and transparency, ICO complaints assessment and initiatives for the coming year. These topics had been selected for discussion based on delegate feedback from previous events and our own priorities for data protection.
